He spent many years in prison in South Africa before the fall of the Apartheid regime. While in prison, he gardened. He buried his memoirs under the prison garden he cultivated, in order that they be smuggled out for world wide readership, contributing to the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, his eventual release from political imprisonment, and his rise to a revolutionary presidency. His nickname is the Rainbow Man, MADIBA.
